Nettie Broxton Godfrey

Nettie Broxton Godfrey

Nettie Broxton Godfrey, age 75, known affectionately as Nettie to her friends and family, was a beacon of light and love in the lives of all who knew her. Born on Saturday, March 18, 1950, Nettie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her boundless compassion, and her infectious zest for life. On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Nettie passed away peacefully in Columbus, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of joy and inspiration.

Nettie was a woman of profound Christian faith, which guided her every step and instilled in her the strength to face life's challenges with grace. She was a living testament to the power of belief, often sharing with others the words of Jesus: "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26).

Throughout her 75 years, Nettie touched countless lives with her optimism and courage. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Charlie and Gussie Broxton; her beloved brothers, David, Eugene, Jerry, and Richard Earl Broxton; her devoted husband, Arthur Godfrey, Sr.; her dear sister, Sadie Reed; and her treasured son, Merrill Broxton. Each of them played a pivotal role in her life, shaping the woman she became.

Nettie's spirit will be carried forward by those she leaves behind. Her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Godfrey, Jr. and Liquita of Columbus, Georgia, will continue to honor her legacy through their own lives and the values she taught them. Her grandchildren, Kamdyn Godfrey and Saniyyah Louissiant, will always remember their grandmother's laughter and the wisdom she imparted. Nettie's remaining siblings, Callie Broxton of Graceville, Florida, Martha Lawson of Newark, New Jersey, and Charles Broxton of Troutman, North Carolina, will hold dear the memories of their sister's unwavering support and love.

Her extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends will miss Nettie's guiding presence. Each of them was touched by her generosity, her ability to listen deeply, and her commitment to helping others find their path.

Nettie lived her life as if every day were a precious gift to be unwrapped with anticipation and joy. She believed in the power of dreams and the importance of perseverance. As Helen Keller once said, "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." Nettie embodied this spirit of optimism, and it is this quality that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

As we bid farewell to Nettie Broxton Godfrey, let us not dwell on the sorrow of her passing but rather celebrate the incredible impact she had on the world. Let us carry her light within us, spreading love and positivity as she did so effortlessly.
