Arrest made in weekend shooting

The Jackson County Times received the following press release from the Marianna Police Department.

During the early morning hours of May 31, 2026, officers responded to 2933 Milton Avenue (Gibbs Apartments) regarding a report of a male subject who had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers learned the victim had already been transported to Jackson Hospital by a private individual prior to law enforcement arrival for treatment of a single gunshot wound to the lower extremities. Officers secured the scene and initiated a preliminary investigation, while additional personnel responded to the hospital to obtain further information.

Evidence from the apartment complex was collected and reviewed by investigators, allowing them to determine that an altercation had occurred between the victim and another male subject identified as Travauntay Latwon Patterson. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, followed by the discharge of a firearm, which struck the victim. Patterson then fled the scene on foot.

On June 2, 2026, information was obtained through various sources including Crime Stoppers tips. This information was verified and Patterson was determined to be hiding out at an apartment complex in Tallahassee Florida.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshalls and Tallahassee Police Department, Patterson was placed under arrest without further incident.
