Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association Holds Annual Meeting

The Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association held its annual meeting at the Ag Extension Office on Penn Avenue. Attendees enjoyed a hearty meal of smoked steaks, baked potatoes, salad, rolls, and dessert.
President Lee Bigham welcomed members and thanked them for their support and participation throughout 2025. Dustyn Sweeney read the minutes from the 2024 meeting, while Treasurer Jeff Snell presented the financial report. Ken Stoutamire delivered the Scholarship Committee report, and Camille Britt gave an update on the Junior Cattlemen’s activities.
After dinner, several awards were presented in recognition of outstanding contributions during the past year.
Board member Caroline Chappel presented the Junior Cattleman of the Year Award. The Cowman Award was presented by Jeff Snell to Mamie Green, who accepted on behalf of her late husband, Doyle Green, honoring his lifelong service to the association. Mr. Green passed away on May 10 of this year.
Ken Godfrey received the Top Hand Award, presented by Snell, recognizing his willingness to step up wherever help was needed. Larry Warden was honored with the Distinguished Service Award for his long-standing dedication and consistent support of the organization.
The evening’s highlight was the presentation of the Cattleman of the Year Award to Dustyn Sweeney, also presented by Snell, acknowledging Sweeney’s countless hours of service and reliability throughout the year.
Auctioneer Kenny Griffin led the Junior Cattlemen’s Cake Auction, a tradition started a few years ago to help fund the Junior Cattlemen’s projects.
President Bigham concluded the meeting by thanking everyone for attending and congratulating all award recipients.
