Wharf Express
A popular restaurant on Marianna’s east side is considering a move to a free-standing building just down the road from its current spot. The Wharf, known for its specialty seafood dishes, now operates in Eastside Plaza. The owners are in discussions with the owners of the former Burger King property at Highway 90 and 71. Nothing is final yet, but talks are active.
Chipola Mart Gets a Facelift
Anyone who drives Lafayette Street regularly has noticed the transformation at Chipola Mart. The classic orange-and-blue 76 ball has returned, bringing back memories for longtime residents, followed by fresh striping around the canopy. The updates give the store a crisp, refreshed look.
Discount Mart to Open on the West End
A freshly painted storefront on the west end of town sparked plenty of speculation, with rumors even suggesting a Christmas shop. It didn’t take long for the real story to emerge. Discount Mart will offer Lotto, tobacco, Kratom, vape products, and beer, according to signage on the building. The bright red and green paint definitely caught the town’s attention. The building appears to be undergoing a full rehab. No opening date has been announced.
Carpenter’s Table Closed
The long-anticipated opening of the Carpenter’s Table turned out to be short-lived. Customers arriving for lunch on Friday, November 7, were met with a sign announcing the restaurant’s permanent closure.
The Times spoke with the previous owner this week. He confirmed he has already received calls from individuals interested in operating what many still refer to as The Oaks. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
The Times will continue to keep readers informed on new openings, moves, and closings throughout Jackson County.
