Hornets sting Wewa, Eye Matchup with Franklin County

Cottondale hit the road last Friday night and came back with a 24–16 win over Wewahitchka, moving their season record to 3–2.

Wewa grabbed a 10–6 lead in the first quarter, but it was their last of the game. Cottondale answered with 12 straight points in the second quarter to take an 18–10 lead at halftime. The Hornets added another touchdown in the third, and while Wewa managed one more score in the fourth, Cottondale held on for the 24–16 victory.

Quarterback Nick Heinemann went 4-of-6 for 79 yards through the air. His top target was Trashonn Collins, who hauled in two catches for 50 yards and both of Cottondale’s passing touchdowns. Tramond Collins added one reception for 23 yards.

On the ground, Zacarius Collins powered the Hornets with 15 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Heinemann chipped in 53 rushing yards, while Tramond Collins added 47.

Tyler Jones led the defense with nine tackles, just one shy of double digits. He was followed closely by Tramond Collins with eight, Demont Jackson and Trasiph Mullins with six apiece, and TJ Kirksey with five. Freshman Carson Maloy capped the night with an interception.

Cottondale will aim to improve to 4–2 when they host Franklin County this Friday night. The Seahawks come in at 5–1, averaging 41.8 points per game. Their only loss was to Liberty County in Week 4. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
