Beach Blanket Bingo brings in the dough
By: Peyton Gay
Friday night, the Alford Community Organization hosted their first Beach Blanket Bingo night. Bingo nights are no stranger to the ACO, but they were excited to host the first Beach Blanket Bingo. The event raised money for the organization and will be put toward buying items for the annual school supply giveaway. Participants were able to play 10 games for $10 dollars. There was also an opportunity to buy tickets for a 50/50 raffle and a Golden Ticket raffle. The Golden Ticket raffle gave the winner of the 10th game the opportunity to claim a cash prize of $50 along with their regular game prize. The other nine games also allowed winners to claim a prize of their choice from the prize table.
Rather than the simple and traditional bingo games, these games all featured a beach themed twist. Players needed to make a predetermined shape to claim the prize. These shapes ranged from anchors to beach umbrellas to sailboats. This twist increased playing time and added some difficultly to the game play. Don’t worry though, a few of the games were speed rounds featuring traditional bingo set ups.
Prizes ranged from a grill to a Ninja blender. The 50/50 raffle produced a $123 jackpot for the winner. Each game produced a different winner, so the room was filled with joy and laughter as tables played for approximately two hours.
This is not the first bingo game the Alford Community Organization has hosted, and it certainly won’t be the last! Keep your eyes on the group’s Facebook page for announcements of their next game and be sure to mark your calendars with their Back to School Bash on July 24.
