Dorothy Mae Vickery

Dorothy Mae Vickery left this world on August 21, 2026. She was 88 years old, a loving, wife,

mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Dorothy was born on April 29, 1938, in

Liberty County, Florida, to James Sizemore and Lois Granger Sizemore. On September 3, 1961

she married her husband Vernon Vickery, the love of her life for 59 years. They had three

children. Mom worked in the school cafeteria while her sons were in the elementary school.

After the children got older, she began her career with the State of Florida, working in clerical

work, where she would later retire. Mom was an active member of Life Connection Church for

over 64 years. She worked as youth and children’s leaders and as treasurer for many years.

Mom enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and walking buddies at

The First Baptist Church. Mom loved people and served them with that love. She was a true

servant of God.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Vickery; father, James Sizemore;

mother, Lois Sizemore; sister, Roberta Sizemore; and brother, James Sizemore, Jr.

Dorothy is survived by her 3 sons: Van Vickery and wife Lisa, Vince Vickery and wife Susan,

Todd Vickery and wife Anita; her 6 grandchildren: Kasey Suddath and husband Kyle, Zach

Vickery and wife Emily, Vanessa Washburn and husband Andrew, Zane Vickery and wife Anna

Kate, Tori Vickery, Zephan Vickery and wife Haley; her 8 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law,

Leverne Dunham; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Doctors and staff of Jackson Hospital for

the amazing care given to Mom.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at McAlpin Funeral Home on Monday, August 24,

2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Central, and service will be at 11:00 AM. Interment

will follow at Bethel Church Cemetery.
