Marianna High School is ushering in a new era for its girls’ soccer program, naming longtime educator and coach Floyd Clark as the new head coach. With over 14 years of experience in soccer and track and field at Marianna, Clark brings a wealth of knowledge and a renewed sense of direction to the program.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Clark will continue his teaching duties, splitting time teaching P.E. across Jackson Alternative School (JAS) and the C.A.C.L. program. This unique arrangement allows him to maintain a consistent presence in students’ lives as they move through different stages of their education, providing a steady source of support and mentorship.
Clark ’s coaching philosophy centers on mindset transformation. “Our focus this season isn’t just about playing better,” he said. “It’s about believing we can compete, and win, against strong teams. These girls have the talent. Now it’s about unlocking their confidence and cultivating a winning mentality.”
To that end, preseason practices are set to begin June 17, with sessions scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 a.m. These early-morning workouts will run into July and will be held jointly with the boys’ team, fostering team cohesion and building physical readiness well ahead of the school year.
Assisting Clark in this new chapter is Bret Olsen, who previously worked with the boys’ soccer team. While Olsen’s broader role within the school’s staffing remains to be finalized, Clark confirmed he will be an integral part of the girls’ program. “Having Coach Olsen onboard gives us a strong start,” Clark said. “His experience and energy will be a huge asset.”
The team is expected to feature a solid group of seven returning seniors, bolstered by talented players moving up from the junior varsity squad. With this blend of leadership and new energy, the program plans to field both varsity and JV teams this season. Game schedules will include a mix of joint travel with the boys’ team as well as standalone matches, offering varied competition and exposure.
With a fresh leadership team, renewed focus, and committed players, the Marianna High School girls’ soccer program is poised for an exciting and transformative season.
