Marianna Public Service Building Nearing Milestones Despite Weather Delays

By: Shelia Mader

Marianna City Manager William Long provided an update on the much-anticipated Marianna Public Service Building, which will serve as the new home for the Fire Department and the Police Department with tie ins to the already complete City Hall Complex.

Long noted that while construction has been progressing steadily, recent heavy rains have slowed certain stages of the project. “Well, the rain has hampered this project as we try to get out of the ground,” Long said. “We still have one last cement pour the crews are waiting to make, but the rain is making a difference there. That’s on the fire department side of the building.”

On the police station side, progress is visible with the block walls beginning to rise. “As can be seen, the block walls are going up as we speak, but it’s a little slower. You know, the rain has slowed them down,” Long explained.

In addition to weather challenges, some labor shortages have impacted the timeline. However, Long assured the commission and residents that the contractor remains confident the project will be completed as scheduled.

Originally started on January 9, 2025, the facility’s completion date, following the most recent change order, is now set for March 6, 2026.

When finished, the Marianna Public Service Building will represent more than just bricks and mortar. It will stand as a modern, state-of-the-art complex bringing together City Hall, fire, and police services under one roof, equipped to serve the community efficiently and proudly for decades to come.
