“House Hunters” filmed in Jackson County

Circus Dog Productions, Inc. has been granted a special use permit to film scenic beauty shots throughout Jackson County for an upcoming episode of House Hunters on the HGTV Network. The permit, officially requested on May 15, 2025, was approved unanimously by the county commission following a brief discussion during a recent meeting.

Filming was scheduled to take place between June 2 and June 5 and primarily involved capturing visuals of public spaces that showcase the area’s natural beauty and character.

Commissioner Paul Donofro, Jr. raised questions during the meeting about the vetting process used for special use permit applications. “I noticed that these requests, we’ve had them before, and they go to, I guess, the department heads,” Donofro said. “What is the process, the question-and-answer process, the review process that our department heads go through for a request like this?”

County Administrator Daniels explained that the process involves a formal application where production companies outline their intentions, especially if filming involves public property. “This has more to do with if some county property is being filmed,” Daniels said. “If they’re coming in on private property, it’s not as much of a concern. But if they’re going to be coming in on public property, this is the opportunity for y’all to approve what’s filmed on public property.”

Daniels emphasized the importance of this review process in ensuring that any content produced reflects positively on the county noting the review process of the application would actually catch that and at least make the county aware that they may not want to approve it.

Commissioner Edward Crutchfield made the motion to approve the permit, with Donofro seconding. The motion passed with full support from the commission. Jackson County residents can expect to see results of camera crews in designated public areas in the future as the production team highlights the scenic appeal of the region to a national television audience.
