IGNORE texts of this type – they are SCAMS
By: Shelia Mader
Scams are everywhere – by phone, email, text, and door-to-door. No means of contact is left uncovered. One that brought numerous calls, emails, and face-to-face visits to the TIMES office this week is the one I, along with thousands of others have received.
It appears very ‘official’ but couldn’t be further from being legitimate. It reads, “Florіda Dеpartment of Motor Vеhicles (DMV) Final Notіce: Enforсement Penalties Begin оn June 18. Аcϲording to our recordѕ, your traffic vіolation remains unpaid. Under Floridа Ϲode 15C-16.003, if your fіne is nоt settled by Јune 17, 2025, thе follοwing penalties will be enforced:
1. DΜV vіolation dаtabase entry
2. Vеhіcle registratiоn suspension starting June 18
3. Suspension of drіving rights for 30 dаys
4. Dеbt transferred to a сollection agency, incurring an additіonal 35% fеe
5. Ρossible legal aсtion and damagе to your crеdit record

Replying with a Y will open the doors for the scam. The TIMES has checked with local law enforcement and they verified these are scams. If you should receive this or a similar text and question its validity, do not hesitate to contact your local law enforcement agency.
