By: Shelia Mader

The Marianna Ozone All-Stars saw their season come to an end last weekend. The positive taken from their experience was they played at their home park. Optimist Park was the host for regional play so the players had lots of fans to cheer them on.  They finished 1-2 in tournament play, winning their first game over Taylor County, 14-11 Friday night. The second game was played Saturday with a delayed start as was the final game of the night. Marianna was shut out by Port St. Joe. The final game of the day that turned into Sunday before a victor was claimed was against Chipley. The Marianna team fell 18-8 with the game’s final out coming early Sunday morning.

Port St. Joe shuts out Marianna

It was a new day Saturday when the Marianna All Stars took the field Saturday for game one. There was a few hours delay in start time with the earlier games running behind. The circumstances were the same for both teams so no one is offering that as an excuse. The Marianna team took the shutout with their heads held high, knowing they had another game no matter the outcome of this game.

The offense was not clicking on all cylinders for certain with only one hit and one walk being recorded. Ryder Sikes recorded the hit, with Will Dickson drawing the solo walk.

Three pitchers shared time on the mound with only five earned runs being recorded.  Colt Hinson gave up two earned runs on three hits, two walks and struck out three batters, followed by Kaleb Melvin allowed two earned runs on one hit and three walks. Myles Tolin allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out one batter.

Chipley ends Marianna’s season

With a start on Saturday and a finish early Sunday morning, the Marianna Ozone team came up short of a win. Chipley took the game 18-8. A smorgasbord of pitchers took time on the mound but it was a case of, “if they hit it, it landed in just the right spot”. Half of the runs scored by Chipley were unearned. Taking time on the mound were Talon Duncan, Will Dickson, Kaleb Melvin, Porter Tolin, and Ashawri Curry.

Easton Bellamy led the way offensively with two hits, one walk, one run scored, and two RBIs, followed by Porter Tolin with a hit, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI, while Talon Duncan drew two walks and had an RBI.
