Jackson County adopts five-year tourism plan
JACKSON COUNTY, FL - Jackson County officials are rolling out a new five-year strategic plan to boost tourism and expand attractions across the region.
The county’s Tourist Development Council (TDC) worked with government leaders, business owners and visitors to develop the plan, which focuses on marketing the county as a travel destination and building new amenities.
Tourism revenue has steadily grown in recent years. In 2023, the county raised its tourist development tax from 4% to 5%, generating between $600,000 and $750,000 in collections. Visitor spending topped $200 million that year, according to county officials.
“With these bigger projects coming on board and with an increase in revenue, we really need to make sure we are being as strategic as possible with those dollars,” said Kelsi Jackson, Jackson County’s tourism director.
The additional funding is helping advance several initiatives, including a convention center and the development of a county museum. Officials also want to add more indoor attractions to give both residents and visitors options year-round.
