Jackson County man pleads guilty to smuggling contraband into detention center
JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. – A Marianna man pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday to introducing contraband into the Federal Detention Center at Tallahassee.
According to court records, on April 13, 2025, after a 50-year-old Bertram Williams had a visitation session, Bureau of Prisons staff searched him.
While searching Williams’ left boots, BOP staff said they discovered two cylinder-shaped, plastic tubs that were in the cut fingertips of a latex glove.
Inside one cylinder, staff discovered marijuana, and in the second, a rolled-up piece of paper saturated in a substance, which officials confirmed field-tested positive for synthetic marijuana.
The substances were also tested at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement laboratory, which confirmed that the substance contained marijuana.
Williams is currently incarcerated at FDC Tallahassee. He faces up to five years imprisonment and one year of supervised release when he is sentenced.
