Jackson County roadwork updated

The Times reached out to Florida Department of Transportation for an update on the various state roads in Jackson County that are under construction, have planned construction, almost completed construction.

Here are the updates:

  • US 90 from Chipola River Bridge to east of Highway 71 South: For all intent and purposes this project is done. There is a small amount of cleanup to be done but nothing that should interfere with the roadway.

  • SR 71 from north of County Road 165 to 5th Avenue resurfacing: This project has begun and should be complete in a couple of months. This is the same project that includes the turn lanes on 71 North. The project includes resurfacing and updating traffic signals and pedestrian features. The turn lanes on 71 North are projected to be done in August.

  • SR 166 (Caverns Road) from Chipola River Bridge to SR 71 resurfacing: Time on the project has begun, but the public will probably not see visible construction until closer to the end of June/July. It is considered on schedule.

  • US 90 at SR 73 intersection: This one should be wrapping up in another month or so. This project is also connected to the project in front of the Cottondale School and that section will be complete most likely in about four months or so.

  • US 90/US 231: There is still work to be started and completed at the US 90/US 231 intersection.
