Jackson County has long recognized the value of employee loyalty, dedication, and service. During the regularly scheduled meeting of the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners, officials took time to honor one of their own for a decade of commitment to the county.
Human Resources Director Maile Ontiveros recognized Personnel Specialist Jennifer Ham for reaching her 10-year service milestone.
Ontiveros praised Ham's dedication and willingness to step up when needed, recalling a period when the county was without an HR director.
“During those 17 days, Jennifer handled HR responsibilities independently,” Ontiveros said. “She demonstrated outstanding competence and a willingness to go the extra mile.”
Ontiveros said Ham's support continued after she was hired as HR director.
“Jennifer has been an invaluable resource, not only because of her extensive knowledge of HR policies, but also because of her willingness to share that knowledge,” Ontiveros said. “I genuinely believe I would have faced significant challenges without her guidance. She took the time to patiently train me on a wide range of programs and processes, often staying late and working through lunch to accommodate my learning curve. Her commitment to supporting Jackson County employees and myself is commendable.”
According to Ontiveros, Ham's assistance extended well beyond technical training.
“She made deliberate efforts to introduce me to key personnel throughout the county, providing insight into how to establish effective working relationships,” Ontiveros said. “Her mentorship helped me better understand the department's dynamics and navigate the county's organizational culture.”
Ontiveros also highlighted Ham's teamwork and positive attitude.
“Jennifer's approachability and willingness to lend a helping hand exemplify what it means to be an outstanding team player,” she said. “She consistently demonstrates a genuine desire to support not only her department, but employees throughout the county.”
Concluding her remarks, Ontiveros said Ham's contributions have strengthened the Human Resources Department and improved overall productivity, making her deserving of formal recognition.
Following the presentation, Commissioner Paul Donofro made a motion to recognize Ham for her service. The motion received a second and was approved unanimously by the board.
Donofro also shared his appreciation for Ham's work.
“Since I've worked with you over the years, I've found you to be very capable and extremely helpful,” Donofro said.
Chairman Jamey Westbrook echoed those sentiments, praising Ham for her dedication and service to Jackson County.
