Bulldogs Fall to Taylor County, Look Ahead to Senior Night
By: Shelia Mader
The Marianna Bulldogs wrapped up a spirited week of homecoming activities Friday night with their matchup against the Taylor County Bulldogs. Though the night didn’t end as the home crowd hoped, Taylor County claimed a 50-7 victory, the Marianna players continued to show heart and determination until the final whistle.
Taylor County came out strong, building an early lead with 13 points in the first quarter and 14 more before halftime for a 27-0 advantage. They added 20 points in the third quarter and capped things off with a field goal late in the game.
Marianna’s highlight came in the third quarter when Rkayzeon White intercepted a Taylor County pass and took it all the way to the endzone. The extra point was good, and the Bulldogs were on the board in a big way.
The loss drops Marianna to 1-8 on the season, with one final opportunity to close things out on a positive note. The Bulldogs will host South Walton tomorrow night, with senior players recognized before kickoff at 7 p.m. (ceremony at 6:30).
It’s been a rebuilding year for Marianna after losing key players from last season’s undefeated regular-season squad, some to graduation, others to transfers. Still, this year’s team has continued to show up with effort and pride each week. The experience they’ve gained should serve them well as they look ahead to next season with confidence and a drive to get back in the win column.
