Cottondale saw some live pre-season action last Friday night in preparation for the real season scheduled to start this Friday night.

Coach Chris Obert about the purpose of the game, “You get to see some things, but you know the clock ran the whole second half. Extra points were dead because like I said, it wasn’t a real game.”

The Bucs scored first to go ahead 7-0 however the Hornets answered with a touchdown. Zacarius Collins on a short run. The run was set up by a big pass from quarterback Nick Heineman to Trashonn Collins. The extra point didn’t make it so the Hornets trailed 7-6.

Bozeman went up 14-6 but the Hornets came back right before the half came to an end for a game-tying touchdown. Heineman threw a short pass to Trashonn Collins who broke a tackle and scored from several yards out. Demont Jackson ran it in for a two-point conversion to tie the game at 14.

With a running clock in the second half, time was of the essence. Bozeman struck first with a touchdown and the extra point to move ahead 21-14. Obert said, “Right there before end the third, before we took the starters out because we were gonna play the backups the fourth quarter, we scored. Heineman threw a long pass to Traymond (Collins) and he scored on the last play of the quarter to make it a 21-20 game.” Cottondale missed the two-point conversion.

In the fourth quarter, Bozeman had the ball once and Cottondale held them. Cottondale drove down the field, got inside the five and was stopped on downs.

About their game this Friday night, Obert, always a man of few words, said, “It’ll be a good game.”
