Letter to the Editor, May 22, 2025

Dear Editor,

Hello, my name is Tersena Bass and I am the daughter/caregiver of Aucilla Bass and the sister of Zechariah Bass. From 2010, my mother had experience the signs of muscle Dystrophy but, she had never let no one know what she was dealing with because she had always kept a smile on her face despite what she was going through. She had made a lot of sacrifices of taking care of me and my brother and we truly thank God for her. Our mother had been through a lot in her life but she had always kept a smile on her face. There has been times that she had always help others from her heart but, whenever she needed support and help, plenty of people had forgotten about her but, there were only few that was there to support her. I had watched my mom cry at night and i always told her, everything is going to be okay. Even through the tears that she had shed at night, she will have a smile on her face every time she sees her children. One thing I can say about our mother, she always love to help and surprise others, loves to give encouraging words, and loves to make you laugh. In 2018, my mother was diagnosed with muscle Dystrophy plus more health problems on top of that but she's a fighter and wonderful inspiration to me and my brother. Right now, I want to make her dream come true. You see, my mother is wheelchair bound and she is require 24/7 assistance and plus she is also a tracheostomy patient as well. Even though my brother is disabled but, he loves to help me with our mom. I take care of my mom in the day-time and he take care of her in the night-time. Even though, there was a time she was about to go to a nursing home but, my brother and I say no, we will take care of her. She has been taking care of us and now it is our time to take care of her. I know our mother is truly grateful for her children and we are grateful for her too. Her dream is to have a mobility van so, she can be able to drive her wheelchair in it so, we, as a family, can take trips together, go to her appointments, and also visit her siblings and family members as well. She also loves to go to church and always wanted to go other church services to support her church. With her being in this condition, it's very hard for her to get around like she wants to. We truly believe that with God, all things are possible and It would be honor to help us to make her dream come true because she really deserves it. Also, her voice needs to be heard as well. Also, this issue is not only just focus on her but also on the behalf of others that is in the same situation as well and I want to know how come that there's not enough grants that are willing to help them? You got some insurances that won't cover for mobility van that can help them get around. My mom had to reschedule her doctor's appointment due to the transportation in her Healthcare insurance three times and we had to file a complaint that many times. My mom almost got ran off the road by other drivers but, the bad thing is that it was in daylight and people do see her and they also do the same thing to the other people that are in the same condition as she is in. There are plenty of people that have overlooked people that is in this condition and that's not right. So, I just hope and pray that their voices need to be heard also. Also, my mother had created a gofundme account and only three donated to the account. So, I'm asking if you can please help me spread the word on behalf of her and others that is in the same condition? Please and thank you so much.

Our address: 2933 Milton Avenue Apt 8A, Marianna, Florida 32448  Name of the voice that needs to be heard: Aucilla Bass

Sincerely,

Tersena Bass, the daughter/caregiver of Aucilla Bass
