By: Shelia Mader

The Makos capped off an outstanding season by claiming the Optimist Park Ponytail Championship with an impressive 9-1 record. More than just a talented group of players, the Makos distinguished themselves through their teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment to one another, truly embodying what it means to be a team.

The season began with a strong 10-1 victory over Cottondale, setting the tone for what would become a dominant campaign. The Makos followed that performance with a commanding 24-1 win over Altha before defeating Optimist Park rival the Aces 7-3. They continued their winning ways with an 11-1 victory over Chipley.

Their only setback of the season came in a hard-fought 6-5 loss to Blountstown, but the Makos responded exactly as champions do. They regrouped, stayed focused, and closed the season on a five-game winning streak, proving they were a team that never let adversity define them.

Throughout the season, the Makos were dominant on both sides of the ball. They outscored their opponents 98-26 and featured a pitching staff that held opponents to just one run in six different games. Their balanced attack combined strong defense, outstanding pitching, and timely hitting, making them one of the most complete teams in the league.

The Makos relied on key pitching contributions from Leighton Deese, Brynn Sangaree, and Natalie Tyus, while every player on the roster played an important role in the team's success. Team members also included Avery Kindelspire, Paige Hayes, Avery Vassallo, Aubree Perry, Aamyia Speights, Lakyn Clark, Lucy Brock, Madison St. James, Chloe Adkins, and Abigail Beigle.

What made this team special was the way the players supported one another. Whether making a big play in the field, delivering a clutch hit, or cheering on teammates from the dugout, the Makos consistently played with energy, confidence, and unity. Their success was built on trust, hard work, and a shared determination to improve every time they took the field.

The championship season was guided by coaches Clint Brock, Mike Sangaree, Whitney Clark, and Trent Dillard, whose leadership helped foster both the team's skills and their strong sense of camaraderie.

The Makos' championship run will be remembered not only for the wins and impressive statistics, but for the teamwork and character they displayed throughout the season. They represented Optimist Park with pride and proved that when a group of players comes together as one, great things can happen.
