Marianna Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Drugs and Gun Found

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. — A late-night traffic stop turned into a pursuit after a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle driving carelessly along Highway 90 in Marianna.

Deputies say the driver, later identified as Jequantavious Trayshon Owens, abruptly fled, leading law enforcement through several intersections before crashing into a tree in a backyard on Decatur Street. Owens then ran on foot, prompting a search by JCSO’s K-9 Team. The track led to a vacant home on Russ Street, where Owens was found hiding in the attic and taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 77 grams of methamphetamine, 2.7 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids, and a firearm. Owens, a convicted felon, faces multiple charges including trafficking in methamphetamine, trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing and eluding, and obstruction.

Sheriff Donnie Edenfield said the chase put the community at risk. “I’m grateful for the teamwork that brought this to a safe conclusion and for the continued support from our partner agencies,” he said.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the Marianna Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol for their assistance.

Anyone with information about illegal drug activity is encouraged to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
