Marianna Commission Recognizes Longevity

By: Shelia Mader

The Marianna City Commission took a moment during their August monthly meeting to shine a spotlight on two employees whose years of service have made a lasting impact on the community.

City Clerk Kim Applewhite was honored for an impressive 20 years with the City of Marianna, having joined the staff on July 11, 2005.

Harriet Powell, a public safety telecommunicator, was recognized for five years of service. The commissioners shared a lighthearted moment noting that this was Powell’s “second time around” with the City after a short break in employment. Marianna Police Chief Hayes Baggett praised Powell, saying, “She is dedicated and a hard worker.”

Both Applewhite and Powell were presented with certificates to mark their milestones, a tangible reminder of the City’s appreciation for its employees. Recognizing longevity, commissioners said, is one way they show gratitude for the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of those who keep the City running smoothly.

Moments like these not only honor individual achievements but also strengthen morale, inspire colleagues, and remind the community of the value of long-term commitment in public service.
