County Sets Public Hearings

By: Shelia Mader

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners has scheduled a public hearing for two Community Development items. The hearing will be held January 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend and share comments either in support or opposition to the proposals.

The first item involves a request to set a public hearing for an addition to the Inland Sun Stop Gas Station located at the Interstate 10 and Highway 71 interchange. The request seeks approval of a General Development Order to construct a 482-square-foot addition to the existing building, along with 488 square feet of new asphalt and concrete. The property is located at 2091 Highway 71 South in unincorporated Jackson County. Commissioner Donnie Branch made the motion to approve setting the public hearing, with a second from Commissioner Dr. Willie Spires. The motion passed unanimously.

The second Community Development item also involved setting a public hearing, this time for a proposed General Development Order for the Wind Wood RV Resort and Campground. County Administrator Jim Dean explained that the public hearing is required because the request includes a proposed exception, allowing residents to provide input on the project.

The proposed 24-unit RV park would be developed in three phases. Phase I includes eight grassed RV sites, an 800-square-foot office building, internal dirt roadways, landscaped buffering, and a retention pond. Phase II would add eight additional grassed RV sites, with the final eight sites constructed during Phase III. The request also includes a special exception to the Jackson County Comprehensive Plan Policy 2.2(2)(3)(a) to allow an RV park within the Agriculture 2 Future Land Use Category.

The proposed RV park would be located on the south side of Pontiac Loop, approximately 0.45 miles southwest of the intersection of Highway 90 and Pontiac Loop, in unincorporated Jackson County. The Board approved setting the public hearing by unanimous vote.
