Lady Bulldogs Come up Short in Soccer Season Opener

By: Shelia Mader

The Marianna High girls’ soccer team fell short, 4-1 in their 2025-26 season opener on the road against the Port St. Joe Sharks.

Freshman Khloe Wilkes stood tall when she scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs with an assist by Murphy Mitchell.

The girls’ team is running a 4-4-2 this year. This allows four defenders and four midfielders, with two strikers, featuring a back four, a midfield four, and two wide players/wingers. First year head coach Floyd Clark said, “This was their first live action and I think they were a little nervous. They were down 3-0 at the half and came back much stronger in the second half. They only allowed one goal and scored a goal.”

Senior Kelsi Jenkins was in the box and recorded eight saves while allowing only four.
