Word of the Day!

Thursday: Undulate: Verb. A formal word meaning to move or be shaped like waves.  On the approach to the tulip festival, visitors are greeted by a large field of the colorful flowers undulating in the wind.

Friday: Cadence: Noun. Cadence is used to refer to various rhythmic or repeated motions, activities, or patterns of sound, or to the way a person’s voice changes by gently rising and falling while they are speaking. He speaks with a soft southern cadence.

Saturday: Paroxysm. Noun. A sudden attack or violent expression of a particular emotion or activity.  The opera singer broke into a paroxysm of song.

Sunday: Conversazione. Noun. A scholarly social gathering held for discussion of literature and the arts. The library hosted a lively conversation about the works of Toni Morrison led by scholars of her writing.

Monday: Apercu: Noun. A comment or brief reference that makes an illuminating or entertaining point.  Hoping to hone my ability to call up a quick apercu, I took to reading a book of famous quotations each morning over breakfast.

Tuesday: Burnish: Verb. Enhance or perfect (something such as a reputation or a skill. 2. Polish (something, especially metal) by rubbing.  Betty liked to burnish her collection of silver every month.

Wednesday: Patulous:  Adjective. Open or expanded. 2. Spreading out from a center, as the branches of a tree. The patulous branches of the mighty oak tree extended 10 fee from its trunk.

Thursday: Pergola: Noun. An arched structure in a garden or park consisting of a framework covered with climbing or trailing plants.
