Sheriff Edenfield gives update on open carry in Jackson County

The First District Court of Appeal recently ruled Florida’s ban on open carry unconstitutional. While the decision is not final, deputies statewide—including here in Jackson County—have been told not to arrest solely under this statute.

Remember: private property owners can still prohibit firearms, and places like schools, courthouses, jails, polling sites, and airports remain off-limits.

We’ll keep you updated as this case develops. In the meantime, please exercise responsibility and respect. This is why JCSO offers firearm safety courses—because safe handling and knowledge are essential to protecting us all.
