Grand Ridge takes a pair of losses

By: Shelia Mader

Grand Ridge had its hands full last week when the Bonifay Blue Devils came to town, bringing plenty of energy and leaving with two solid wins. The Indians’ A team took a tough 40–18 loss, while the B team fell 36–7, but both groups showed grit throughout the night.

The A game opened with Bonifay setting the tone early, holding Grand Ridge scoreless in the first quarter while putting up 16. The second quarter slowed for both sides, but the Blue Devils managed to edge out a narrow 5–4 advantage that sent the game into halftime with Grand Ridge trailing 21–4.

The Indians found more rhythm after the break. They posted eight points in the third quarter and added six more in the fourth, working to chip away at the lead. Bonifay stayed just out of reach, answering with nine points in the third and ten in the final minutes to finish out the win. A. J. Johnson led Grand Ridge’s scoring effort with seven points.

The B team matchup followed a similar script, with Bonifay taking control early and never letting up. The Blue Devils built a 21–5 lead by halftime and kept their foot on the gas through the second half. Grand Ridge added two more points after the break, but Bonifay’s steady scoring closed out the game at 36–7. Kamryn Robinson anchored the offense for the Indians, finishing with all seven of the team’s points.

Despite the losses, both Grand Ridge squads showed fight and flashes of momentum. They’ll look to build on those moments as they move deeper into the season.
