Marianna Drops a Pair in Girls Soccer

By: Shelia Mader

The Marianna girls soccer team closed out the 2025 portion of its season on a tough stretch, dropping back-to-back games heading into the holiday break.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the week on the road Dec. 15 with a 5–2 loss to Freeport, then turned around three days later and traveled the opposite direction for a 6–1 setback against Florida State University High School on Dec. 18.

Against Freeport, Marianna was shorthanded, playing without two starters. Mabry Mitchell is out for the remainder of the season following surgery, while older sister Murphy Mitchell missed the first half before joining the lineup after halftime.

Freeport built a 4–0 lead by the break, limiting Marianna to just one shot on goal in the opening half. Murphy Mitchell provided a spark in the second half, placing two of her three shots on frame into the net. Freeport added one more goal after the break to seal the 5–2 victory.

Alannah Henderson anchored the defense in goal, finishing the night with eight saves.

The matchup with FSU High followed a similar script. The Seminoles came out quickly, taking a 3–1 lead in the first half and then blanking Marianna 3–0 over the final 40 minutes. Murphy Mitchell scored the Lady Bulldogs’ lone goal. Araceli Perez and EllaGrace Carrel each registered one shot on goal, while Henderson again recorded eight saves.

Marianna enters the break with a 2–7–1 record and will look to regroup when play resumes January. 6. The Lady Bulldogs return home to face Franklin County, with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m.
