ACO dinner auction = sold out success

By: Shelia Mader

The Alford Community Organization sets the bar high for organizations whose goal is to give back to their community. Alford is one of Jackson County’s smaller towns with a population of 526 according to the 2024 census, up from 493 in the 2020 census. They have a slate of activities scheduled throughout the year with each and everyone of them more successful than the year before.

Saturday, October 11 they held their Annual Dinner/Auction at the community center. As is the norm, the event was sold out for the evening of delicious food, fellowship, auctioning of items and old-fashioned family entertainment. In keeping with tradition, the meal was one that tempted the palates of everyone there. On the suggestion of some of those present, the menu will remain with those who attended, “That’ll make those wanting to know more inclined to attend next year.”

Following the feast, the always entertaining live auction ensued with Kenny Griffin auctioneering off a multitude of donated items. There were items from fresh baked goods to baskets filled with goodies, artwork, woodwork and the list goes on.

Kenneth Griffin said after the evening was over, “ACO would like to express their appreciation to the local businesses who supported the event and to the volunteers who worked so hard to ensure the success of the dinner/auction. Plans are already underway for the next Annual Dinner/Auction.”

The proceeds from the dinner/auction are used to fund scholarships, support free events for the community, provide community wide aid when needed and other projects the membership select. Please follow their Facebook page for upcoming events.
