Duell Otway Pitts, Jr., 76, of Lynn Haven, passed away at his home on May 16, 2025. He was born on April 29, 1949 in Panama City to Duell Sr and Dorothy (Morris) Pitts. He is predeceased by his father, mother, stepfather, father-in-law, granddaughters Elizabeth and Madeline, and grandson Aaron. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Darlene; daughters Tammy Hardy (Johnny), Olivia Pitts, and Sara Ivey (Kyle); sons Duell “Toby” Pitts III (Kathy) and Benjamin Pitts (Melanie); grandchildren Christopher (Christina), Chad (Kelli), Jacob, Mary, and Kolter; great grandchildren Shelton, Katelyn, Miley, and Aubriella; sister Peggy Gaye Shipes; brother Jamie Pitts (Kelle); stepbrother Charles Smith Jr (Teresa); mother-in-law Boncile Richardson; along with numerous cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Duell worked over 46 years for the Woodland Division of the Panama City paper mill; retiring in 2015. He also served as mayor of Cedar Grove in the 1980s, before marrying his wife Darlene and moving to their new home in Lynn Haven. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, tying flies, and being out in the woods. He could identify any tree on sight. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, westerns, oldies music, and history, especially family history.
Services will be held at First Assembly of God of Southport, 7809 Hwy 2302, Southport, FL on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Old Southport Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Hunter Richardson and Benjamin Pitts.
