Bernice Lee Rowan

Bernice Lee Rowan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and proud Alabama fan, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025. She was born on November 11, 1939, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Alma Lee and Carter Whitten.

During her nursing studies at the University of Alabama, Bernice moved to Chattahoochee, Florida, to continue her training at Florida State Hospital — a community she embraced and never left. It was there that she met her husband, O.W. Rowan Jr., and together they built a loving family. Bernice was a proud wife and the devoted mother of her two girls, Cindy and Sandra, who were the loves of her life.

Bernice found her true calling in nursing, where she cared for others with compassion, skill, and kindness. Her compassion extended well beyond her career, as she was always ready to lend a helping hand, share words of comfort, or offer unwavering support to family, friends, and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, O.W. Rowan Jr.; her brothers, Mickey and Johnny; and her daughter, Cindy.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Cook (John); her grandchildren, Brian, Ashley, Brooke (Tyler), and Jessie; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriela, Braeden, Violet, and Dorian; along with many extended family members, colleagues, and friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

Whether caring for patients, cheering on the Crimson Tide, or spending time with her family, Bernice lived with grace, compassion, and unwavering love. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, Florida. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:00 AM Central Time, with funeral services starting at 11:00 AM Central Time. Interment will be in the Providence Baptist Cemetery in Greensboro, Florida.
