John Thomas Watson
John Thomas Watson
John Thomas Watson, age 70, passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father and beloved family on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at his home, surrounded by those he loved. He was born on April 14, 1955, in Chipley, Florida, to James Edward and Demary’s Ethelle (Barfield) Watson.
John rarely met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He was loud, and he loved big. Anyone who knew John knew without a doubt that he loved Jesus, and it was his life’s mission to share God’s love with everyone he encountered.
John was a gifted singer and musician who used his talents to spread the Gospel near and far. He made it his mission to sing wherever God opened a door—no matter how large or small the congregation. It never mattered whether a church could pay him or not; John trusted the Lord to provide, and throughout his ministry and life, God was always faithful.
Even after receiving his diagnosis in 2019, John remained determined to continue his ministry. When he was no longer able to travel, he turned to social media as a platform to keep telling others about Jesus and the love of God. John wanted everyone to know Jesus the way he knew Him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Demary’s Ethelle (Barfield) Watson; his sister, Shirley Watson Hall; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Watson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Obert Watson of Cottondale, Florida; his children: Nick Watson and wife, Golden, of Lowry, Colorado; Zack Watson and wife, Lindsey, of Bonifay, Florida; Brandon Wilkes and wife, Hannah, of Cottondale, Florida; and Jennifer Boles and husband, Michael, of Cottondale, Florida. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Keegan Watson, Izzy Watson, Sawyer Watson, Addison Wilkes, Kinley Wilkes, Liam Wilkes, Landry Wilkes, Noah Boles, Micah Boles, and Michaela Boles.
Additional survivors include his brothers: Chubby Watson and wife, Carolyn; Fred Watson; and Danny Watson and wife, LeeAnne; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Grace Assembly @ Chipley, with Rev. Dallas Pettis officiating. Interment will follow at Sapp Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m., at the church.
