Annie “Kathryn” Barfield
Annie “Kathryn” Barfield of Grand Ridge, FL, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 29, 2025, in Blountstown, FL. She was 88 years old. Kathryn was born on November 13, 1936, in Calhoun County to Council James and Beatrice (Scott) Green. She was a 1955 graduate of Altha School in Calhoun County, FL. Kathryn married Monk Barfield on June 19, 1955, and celebrated over 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2015. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, raising three children. Kathryn enjoyed recipe clipping and always had a special way to “Turn it up a notch.” She retired from work from Oglesby Plant Laboratories in Altha, FL, where it is safe to say she propagated hundreds of thousands of plants. She enjoyed visits from her neighbors, friends, children, and grandchildren, always keeping a number of toys ready for the kids to play with. She enjoyed NASCAR and college football, especially the Florida Gators. Many of her fondest memories would be shared in her den, with a cup of coffee and her famous Chewy Bars to keep you full.
Kathryn was proceeded in death by her parents: Council James and Beatrice (Scott) Green, four sisters, Edna McGowan, Murel Cissell, Betty Turcotte, and Dorothy Whitfield; two brothers, Herman Green, and Kenneth Green; her husband Monk Barfield; and daughter Cindy Barfield.
Kathryn’s survivors include brother Glen Green (Linda) of St. Augustine, FL; sons Scott Barfield (Aracelie) of Grand Ridge, FL, Matthew Barfield (Kelly) of Altha, FL; grandchildren Haley, Kelsey, Katy, Hannah, Anthony, Cody, Victoria, Chloe, and Hunter; great grandchildren Lincoln, Lexi, Atlas, Andy, Merrick, and one on the way; as well as a special son-in-law, James Lawrence.
Visitation services will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Peavy Funeral Home, Blountstown, FL from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Graveside Services will follow Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Shady Grove Cemetery at 10:00 am, officiated by Pastor Jack Hollis of Marianna, FL. All arrangements are under the direction of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.
