Hubert Derwin Isler

Hubert Derwin Isler, a cherished family man and respected community member of Grand Ridge, passed away at the age of 83 in Panama City, Florida, on the 1st of January, 2026. Hubert was born in Ariton, Alabama, on May 19, 1942, to the late Bill and Ruth Morris Isler, who preceded him in death. His roots ran deep in Jackson County, where he grew up in Alford, Florida before settling in Grand Ridge.

Hubert graduated from Cottondale High School and went on to courageously serve his country in the United States Army. His unwavering work ethic was evident during his impressive 45-year tenure in the Department of Corrections. His dedicated service spanned several institutions, including the Florida State Hospital, ACI, River Junction, Greenhead and the Boys School, culminating with his retirement as a respected sergeant.

Beyond his professional achievements, Hubert was an avid outdoorsman, reveling in the serenity of fishing at Lake Seminole alongside his good friends, Bernard Neel and Harry Sneads. Hubert had the proud title of "Paw Paw Isler" by his grandchildren and many others. His spiritual faith as a Christian guided his steps and found a home within the congregation of Sneads Assembly, where he contributed his time and spirit as a longtime member and usher.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judith Isler; children, DJ Isler, Ronald Isler, and Lora Ann Isler.

He is survived by his daughter, Susie Nichols (Steve) of Vernon, FL; his beloved grandchildren, Michael Gainer (Tommy Slater), Cody Gainer (Megan), Tori Howell (John), Joseph Wiggins (Lara), Zane Isler, Hanna O'Connor (Wesley), Sean Nichols (Trinity), Mandi Wimmer (Andy); his brother, Bobby Isler (Brenda) of Leesburg, FL. Each of them will carry forth his legacy of love, strength, and integrity.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Sneads Assembly of God Church with Reverends Bill Mayo and Juno Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in Dykes Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hubert's family would like to thank Dr. Steven Spence and the VITAS Hospice staff, his special nurse, Toni Qualls, and other caretakers including Jeraldine Moats and Paul and Lora Woods with the care and compassion they provided.
