Adell Diane Jones Bowers

Adell Diane Jones Bowers

Adell Diane Jones Bowers, age 89, of Panama City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2026, in Panama City, Florida.

She was born on July 28, 1936, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to the late Henry Jones, Sr. and Mae Retha Harper Jones. She was one of six children raised in a loving, faith-filled home that laid the foundation for the life of service and compassion she would later exemplify.

Adell grew up surrounded by her beloved siblings—Otha Lee Collier, Jane Elizabeth Roberts, Henry Edward Jones, Jr., her twin brother Odell, and Fred—all of whom preceded her in death. Her father faithfully served as a deacon, school bus driver, and farmer, while her mother worked tirelessly as a domestic worker, nurturing her family with unwavering love and care. From them, Adell inherited a deep faith, strong work ethic, and a heart for others.

At an early age, Adell gave her life to Christ at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia. After marrying and relocating to Panama City, Florida, she continued her spiritual journey at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years. She was an active member of the choir, women’s ministry, and education ministry, always willing to lend a helping hand—especially to the children and youth. In her later years, she found great joy in outreach ministry, particularly serving through the church’s food pantry, where her generosity and compassion touched countless lives.

Adell was educated in the Hutto High School system and graduated in 1955. She went on to attend Albany State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work in 1959. During her time there, she met the love of her life, Thomas Jefferson Bowers of Panama City, Florida, who affectionately called her his “Georgia Peach.” They were united in marriage on September 17, 1960, in St. Augustine, Florida. Their union was blessed with five children: Jeffrey Gerrod (preceded her in death), Jennifer Marvette, Thomas Keith, Christi Michelle, and Tiffany Nicole.

Following their marriage, Adell began her professional career in Panama City as a social worker with the State of Florida’s Health and Rehabilitation Services, later transitioning to the Department of Children and Families. She dedicated over three decades of service before retiring in 1995. Her work in foster care reflected her deep compassion and unwavering commitment to families and children. She worked tirelessly to reunite families whenever possible and to ensure that every child experienced love, stability, and care. To many, she was more than a social worker—she was a source of hope, advocacy, and genuine care. Her colleagues and the families she served became lifelong friends who cherished her deeply.

Adell’s life was a testament to service beyond her profession. She was actively involved in her community through organizations such as the Panama City Jaycettes, the Girls and Boys Club, and the Bay County Floridian Club. She found joy in cooking, volunteering, and most of all, spending time with her family—whom she loved dearly.

Adell was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Jefferson Bowers. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Jennifer Collins (Jimmie), Thomas Keith Bowers (Valerie Scoon), Christi Bowers, and Tiffany Bowers. She also leaves her beloved grandson, Wynton Bowers, who was her “best friend” and the light of her life.

She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Patricia Johnson, Tammy Rodriguez, Angela McRoberts, Cheryl Brewer, Toni Jones, Odell Jones (SaTrina), Henry Jones III (Uneeda), Natalie Corbitt, Evie Jones, Corey Johnson, Paul Mack, Henry McRoberts III (Teeshia), Carmen Johnson, and Andrea McRoberts, along with a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched in meaningful ways.

Adell’s legacy is one of faith, love, service, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a powerful example of what it means to live a life devoted to God, family, and community.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 PM, Monday, March 30, 2026, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 717 Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd in Panama City, Florida.
