Mary Griggs Goodson
We are sad to announce that Mary Griggs Goodson passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025. Mary was affectionately known as, "Tripp", by her parents, and was the child of Frank Hunter Griggs and Corinne Dixon Griggs.
Mary Griggs Goodson
Her father, Frank, was devoted to All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta and was a renowned architect in Atlanta for many years. He worked on the Parrish house at All Saints, the original Atlanta Stadium which welcomed the Braves, Northside Hospital maternity ward, the round C&S Bank, the Regency Hyatt restaurant which looked like a flying saucer among many other notable Atlanta projects. Mary was so proud of him. She had many memories of their hardship years during the war and growing up, as well as the good times and great love of her parents. She was the light of their lives and the apple of their eyes. Mary lost her mother at a young age and Frank nurtured her and was a great comfort to her even in his distress. They were very close.
Mary worked for various hospitals over the years as an administration counselor and loved her work. She met the love of her life, Wayne Goodson who worked for Lockheed after a stent in the Navy. After they retired, they moved to Malone, Florida to be near Wayne's family and were very happy; especially boating, fishing, and many very happy get togethers enjoying great company and great food cooked by the head chef, Wayne's Mama, Ester Goodson. They eventually moved to Horseshoe Beach, Florida which was a sleepy little village that time forgot and was a piece of paradise. After Wayne died, she lived alone for many years with her beloved little dog, Blondie. After a few falls and direct hits from two hurricanes (which she was evacuated by her son) and under doctor's orders, she could no longer live alone. She moved to south Georgia to live with her son, Bill, his wife Cate, and her grandson, Austin. She enjoyed seven very happy and comfortable years with them. Her daughter, Virginia Silver, preceded her in death and she is survived by her sons, William Lennox Donaldson, David Bruce Donaldson; stepdaughter, Cayce Goodson Madden, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren.
Graveside services are private. Mary will be laid to rest in the Goodson family plot next to her beloved, Wayne, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Marianna, FL. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Lambe Family at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
