Barbara Ann Cook Powell

Barbara Ann Cook Powell, age 79, of Marianna, FL, a devoted Christian, loving

mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away Sunday, July 19,

2026, surrounded by the legacy of a family that she cherished so much.

She was preceded in death by her parents Margie Cook and Herbert Cook and by her

beloved husband, William “Bill” Powell, with whom she shared a life built on faith,

devotion, and enduring love. 

Barbara is survived by her son, William “Billy” Lee Powell and his wife Karen, her two

daughters, Sherri Teresa Godwin and her husband, Jeff, and Angela Margie Bunting

and her husband, Phillip. She also leaves behind a treasured family of grandchildren,

Christopher Godwin and his wife Jordyn, Alexandra Caudill and husband Taylor,

Brianna Godwin-Huyke and husband Angel, Kailey Bates and husband Trevor, Ashley Bunting-Knecht and husband Jon, Will Powell and fiancée Emma, Preston Powell and one great-granddaughter, Kacey Bates.

Barbara worked for the State of Florida at Sunland before retiring from Dozier School for

boys after years of faithful and dedicated service. Beyond her career, she gave

generously of her time and heart to her family and friends. She was a proud member of

the Red Hats Society, a founding member of the Jackson County ARC, and

treasured the friendships she built throughout her life. Barbara especially enjoyed

gathering with her close friends for regular games of Canasta, creating countless

cherished memories filled with laughter and fellowship.

Those who knew Barbara will remember her as a woman whose home and heart were

always open. She was known as “Grandma” to many, not only to her own grandchildren

but also to the friends of her children and grandchildren, all of whom found warmth,

love, encouragement, and a sense of belonging in her presence. Her home was a

gathering place filled with laughter, conversation, and the comfort of knowing there was

always room for one more. Barbara had a remarkable gift for making everyone

welcomed, valued, and loved. Her generosity, kindness, and unwavering compassion

touched lives, leaving a legacy of love and friendship that will be cherished and

remembered for years to come.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the medical caregivers for showing

compassion and dedication towards our mother.

A graveside service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Bonifay Cemetery with Jeff Godwin officiating and Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Partners for Pets (4011

Maintenance Dr. Marianna, FL, 32448).
