Collis Alton Kent, 83 of Alford, Florida went home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2026 at River Valley Rehab Center in Blountstown, Florida.
Collis was born on February 28, 1943, in Jackson County, Florida, to Collis and Zolena Kent. A lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle, he lived a life defined by dedication, exceptional craftsmanship, and deep love for his family and community, guided always by his faithful followership of Christ.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years, carrying with him a strong sense of duty and honor throughout his life. Following his military service, he devoted 32 years to the United States Postal Service, where he worked faithfully as a City Mail Carrier, Clerk, and Maintenance Man, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues and those along his route.
Collis was a master wood craftsman whose hands and heart created lasting treasures for his family. From simple stools to beautifully crafted grandfather clocks, each piece reflected his patience, skill, and love. These creations will remain cherished reminders of the care he poured into everything he did.
Above all, Collis treasured his family. He found his greatest joy in the time spent with those he loved, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His steady presence, kind spirit, and quiet strength will be deeply missed.
A man of strong faith, Collis was a devoted member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kynesville, Florida. His life was a testament to humility, service, and unwavering belief.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of love, craftsmanship, and faith will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Collis and Zolena Kent; daughter: Katherine D. Sloan; sister: Joyce Ann Pridgeon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Melba J. Kent of Alford, FL; son: Al Kent (Teresa) of Smyrna, GA; brother: Ronnie Kent (Vickie) of Graceville, FL; sister: Charlotte Roark (Steve) of Cottondale, FL; grandchildren: Jessica Riley (Steven), Kimberly Draayom (Phillip), Melanie van Coller (Conrad); great grandchildren: Porter Riley, Emmalyn Riley, Jeremy Draayom, Karoline Draayom, Owen Draayom, Naomi van Coller, Annie van Coller.
Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kynesville, Florida with Pastor James Gray Braxton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
