Donald Whitaker Vickery
Donald Whitaker Vickery
Donald Whitaker Vickery, age 82, died Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in Bay Minette, AL. He was born November 8, 1943, to Burl and Erma Simmons Vickery.
Donald was a devoted family man whose life was marked by hard work, generosity, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Donald retired from Winn-Dixie after an incredible 40-year career that began with sweeping the parking lot and, through dedication and perseverance, led him into management. Alongside his beloved late wife, he proudly owned and operated the family oyster bar, Vickery's Seafood, where they welcomed friends and neighbors for several years. Donald found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, whether fishing, tending to his garden, or sharing stories. He had a lifelong love of World War II history and, in retirement, enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine while listening to the golden oldies. Donald was a faithful donor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for many years; he quietly supported a cause that was close to his heart. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, quiet generosity, and love he had for his family.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Erma Vickery; his brothers, Eugene Vickery and John Burma Vickery; and his beloved wife, Darlene Vickery.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Christy McAllister, and her husband, Jeff; his son, Chad Vickery; his grandchildren, Tyler McAllister, Lauren McAllister, and Kaiden Vickery; along with extended family and many friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Funeral services will be 10 AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel. Interment will be in Sink Creek Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
