Mrs. Collins was born August 3, 1930, west of Malone, Florida.  She attended secondary schools at Pope Chapel School, McChapel School and Snow Hill School until it closed.  She attended post-secondary school at Chipola College and Florida A & M University.  A deaconess in the African Methodist Episcopal church, Mrs. Collins was active throughout her life as a Christian missionary, military spouse, community activist, and family genealogist.  In 1944 at the age of 14, she became a United Christian Aide Lodge member, and in her later years became the first female president of her lodge. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star # 52 in 1985. At her church, McChapel AME, Marianna, Fl, she was president of the Women’s Missionary Society for eight years.  She began the first Young People’s Department (YPD) for her church and later became director of the Marianna District which encompassed 21 YPD departments.  As a military spouse she became involved in the Gray Ladies, a military wives hospital volunteer organization, the Enlisted Men’s Wives Club, and the cub scouts with her children.  She worked tirelessly in her community for civil rights as a member of the NAACP, promoting voting rights through voter registration drives and as the first Black poll worker in her precinct.  She was also at the forefront of school integration in 1965 at Malone High School.  Later she would work at Malone High School as a teacher’s aide, as a health support aide at the Jackson County Health Department, and after retirement, with the McKinnie Funeral Home.  Fannie was a people person, passionate about her community and doing all that she could to improve the lives of others.
