Brenda Dianne Moore Owen

Brenda Dianne Moore Owen, of Bonifay, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at the age of 68, with her family at her side. Mrs. Owen was born on December 2, 1956, in Hartford, AL, to the late James and Lucille Mitchell Moore (both of the Bethlehem Community and, later of Bonifay) and lived her entire life in Holmes County.

Mrs. Owen graduated from Bethlehem High School (1974) and Florida State University (1978) with a B.A. in Elementary Education and immediately began her career in education. After brief stints at Pierson (FL) and Poplar Springs elementaries, Mrs. Owen accepted a position teaching Second grade where her heart truly always remained – Bethlehem School. Thereafter, Mrs. Owen devoted her entire professional life to teaching the children of Holmes County and continued in her second-grade classroom at Bethlehem for 36 years until she retired in 2017. After retirement, Mrs. Owen also taught Sunday School at Carmel Assembly of God Church, where she was a life-long member starting from her childhood when her mother and father led music worship at the church. 

Mrs. Owen loved her family and church above all else; she spent the majority of her latter years keeping and adoring her grandchildren, Tristan and Ashton, who were the lights of her life. Mrs. Owen's love for her extended Moore family also ran deeper than can be expressed; indeed, the annual Moore Reunion was a highlight of her year. Mrs. Owen also had a “green thumb” and cherished moments spent on her porch, and in her garden, tending to her wide variety of plants and flowers.

Mrs. Owen's immediate family wishes to express a sincere and heartfelt appreciation for all those extended family, friends and church family who have assisted in so many ways during the last months and days, and the caregivers and healthcare providers who provided Mrs. Owen with such excellent care.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Owen was preceded in death by her nephew, James Tyler Moore. 

Mrs. Owen is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Jempsey Giles Owen, Jr.; one son, Christopher Todd Owen, and wife, Jassiel Coria Gonzalez; one daughter, Jamie Dianne Edwards, and husband, John Cody Edwards; one grandson, Tristan Cody Edwards; one granddaughter, Ashton Jade Edwards; stepmother, Helen Harris Moore, all of Bonifay, Florida; one brother, James Timothy Moore, Sr. and wife, Mary Ann; and nephew, James Timothy Moore, Jr., and wife, Ashley, of Tallahassee, FL.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Carmel Assembly of God Church with Pastors Tommy Moore, Jerry Moore and Jonathan West officiating.

Burial will follow in the Carmel Assembly of God Church Cemetery upon conclusion of services with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

Visitation will be from 1:30 – 2:30 P.M. for all friends and family.
