Glenda Ruth Whiting

Glenda Ruth Whiting

Glenda Ruth Whiting, a cherished matriarch, passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 85 in Marianna. Born in Saginaw, Texas on July 6, 1940, to the late Dee and Margaret Hill Thompson, she led a life rich with devotion and kindness.

Her early years in Texas set the stage for a life of steadfast work ethic, a value she carried into her various roles as a hairdresser, a dedicated employee at Sears, and ultimately retiring as a respected director at Gulf County Transportation.

Glenda's love story with her late husband, George Whiting, blossomed into a sprawling family tree that included her loving children— Mark Snell, Margie Doster and husband, Jim, Dewayne Maddox and wife, Penny, Melinda Stevens and husband, Robert, Travis Whiting and wife, Patty, Helen Schierbaum and husband, Dennis, John Whiting and wife, Susan, David Whiting and wife, Judy—and was further blessed with nineteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Thompson, Jimmy Evans and Glen Evans.

Glenda's faith was the cornerstone of her existence—an abiding Christian belief that guided her every step. She found fellowship with her congregation at Greenwood Methodist Church before attending Grace Methodist Church. She was recognized for her selfless service when she was nominated for the 2003 Jefferson Award, reflecting the widespread appreciation for her contribution to the community.

Glenda had an insatiable zest for life's simple pleasures—whether it was communing with her beloved animals, intricately weaving her crochet work, collecting the unique gifts of the sea, or tending to her garden.

A graveside service will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 20, 2026 at Greenwood Methodist Church Cemetery with Irvin Clark and Kevin Champion officiating, Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family would like to specially thank Dr. Mark Akerson, Dr. Henry Knowles, Dr. Jeff Davis and the staff of Chipola Health and Rehabilitation for the love and care they have shown to Glenda and her family over many years.

Services are entrusted to the Lambe Family at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Condolences may be made online at www.mariannachapelfh.com
