Johnny Byrd Stone Sr., age 83, of Sneads, Florida, quietly passed away at his home on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Johnny was born on June 7, 1942, in Gainesville, Florida. He lived most of his life in Sneads, where he was known and loved by many. Johnny served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Marianna and looked forward to Jesus’ return.
Johnny worked hard throughout his life. Working was his hobby and he always met his challenges with determination, strength, and perseverance. He loved operating his equipment. Before retiring, he was an expert house mover, working alongside his son, JP. for many years. Together, they worked hard for everything they had. Even after retirement, Johnny continued to stay busy.
His greatest joy, and what he counted as his greatest success in life was his grandchildren. Johnny had a special way of making his love known to them and to those who were closest to him.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, James Odell Stone Sr. and Daisy Cleo Stone; his sisters, Betty Jean Suggs and Velia Ann Hollomon; his brother-in-law, Walter Allen Hollomon; and his brother, James Odell Stone Jr.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Paula Stone; their two sons, Johnny Byrd Stone Jr. (Stoney) and James Paul Stone (JP); and his two daughters from a previous marriage, Lisa Renee Thomas and Laurie Jean Nabors, both of Decatur, Alabama.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Haley Smith and her husband, Randall, Lauren Stone, Katelyn Stone, Emily Stone, James Paul Stone Jr., Victoria Thomas, and Jessica Bzdell and four great grandchildren, Grayson Smith, Hayden Smith, Lemon Bzdell, and Ollie Bzdell.
Johnny leaves behind a special sister-in-law of many years, Clyde Marie Stone, along with a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special loved ones who remained close to the family, including Julie Rackley and Rebecca Robinson.
Johnny will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his strong work ethics, and the life he shared with those who loved him.
A funeral service for Mr. Johnny Byrd Stone will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 beginning at 10:00 AM Central Time in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
