Leroy Hightower, a man of interesting character, thoughtful nature, and adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan. Born on October 19, 1943, in Graceville, Florida, to R. Bell Nix Curry and L. A. Hightower, Leroy's journey through life was marked by his warm presence and the indelible impact he left on those around him.

Leroy's formative years in Graceville laid a strong foundation for the man he would become. In 1969, he made a significant move to Detroit, Michigan, a place that would become his home and the backdrop for his professional and personal achievements. His career spanned several decades and industries, showcasing his versatility and work ethic. At Doe Belmont Manufacturing, Leroy honed his skills as a welder, a trade that demanded precision and strength. His contributions to the Chrysler Tank Plant/General Dynamics were instrumental in building tanks, a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. Later, he embraced his passion for cooking as a chef at Greektown Casino, where his culinary creations were savored by many.

Leroy's life was not without its challenges, having become a widower four years ago. Yet, his resilience and love for his family never waned. He is fondly remembered and survived by his children, Noris Hightower of Clearwater, Florida, and Sabrina R. Hightower of Detroit, Michigan. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Dontae J. Hightower of Detroit, Michigan, and Jordan Hightower of Clearwater, Florida. Leroy's joy was multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, JaMyah, Jamir, Ny'Ari, and Syaire Hightower, all of Detroit, Michigan. Siblings: Lillie, Eva Lois, Carolyn and Eva Ruth, Abraham, Charles and David; His extended family of numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared.

Throughout his life, Leroy's personality was a beacon of light. He was a man who never shied away from an adventure, always ready to explore new horizons and experiences. His thoughtful approach to life's challenges was a source of inspiration, and his ability to listen and provide wisdom was a comfort to many. Leroy's interesting tales and experiences added depth to every conversation, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Leroy Hightower's story is one of passion, perseverance, and love. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the life he lived so fully and the countless ways he enriched our lives. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and his memory will be treasured forever. Rest in peace, Leroy; your journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM, in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, Florida. 

Interment will follow in the Holy Neck/St. Philllip Cemetery in Marianna, Florida under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.
