Karen Trazetta Sorey Ward (affectionately called “Zet”) was born on November 15, 1963 in Campbellton, FL to the late June Sorey and Mary Laster. Karen had a rare gift for building relationships. If you met her, you loved her—and you remembered her. She brought joy wherever she went, often through her laughter and her singing. She loved her church, New Bethel, and found great joy in worship and song. Her faith in the Lord was steady and sincere, and it carried her through every season of life. Though Karen had no children of her own, she was a mother to many. Her life was defined by the way she loved, nurtured, taught, and cared for her family. Her nieces and nephews—and great-nieces and great-nephews—were her children, and she poured her heart into each of them with unwavering devotion. She believed deeply in family, faith, and home, and she lived those values daily. She was preceded in death by her parents, June Sorey and Mary Sorey; her sisters, Marcia Sorey and Carrie Nell Russ; and her beloved husband, Ricky Ward. We take comfort knowing this day marks a joyful reunion in heaven. She is survived by her brothers, Laymon Bruce Sorey (Felicia) and Jacob Sorey (Yvonne); her sisters, Mary Blue (Kelly) and Jeannette Stafford; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed to be loved by her.

While our hearts are heavy, we do not grieve without hope. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8

Karen’s body may be gone, but her spirit, love, and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
