Betty M. Thomas

Betty S. Martin born 26 June 1940 to the late Levell Daniels and Claudia M. Martin in Dothan AL. She spent some of her early years in Campbellton and other surrounding locations in Florida.

Later she left the south and traveled up north to start a new life, where she met and Carlton M. Torres Kemper, and their union produced a daughter (Teresa).  She later  married Melvin Thomas, Sr. and to this union three children were born however, only two survived (Linda and Melvin Jr.).

She was a member of Dewitt Reform church for 40 years where she served in various positions to include Usher and President. After a distinguished career with USPS she retired and returned to the South to live with daughter Teresa in Jacksonville.  She then transferred her membership to Greater Zion Grove Church where she served until her passing.

Betty having no enemies reflected love, kindness, and generosity to a fault.  She would often give her last as well as inspirational words of Christian wisdom to anyone in need.  God has truly reclaimed one of his Angels. Like her mother she left positive imprints of love on every heart she came across.

She was preceded in death by her parents, new born son, two sisters: Grace Daniels and Elizabeth Daniels; husband: Melvin Thomas Sr.; son: Melvin Thomas Jr.; friend: Carlton Torres Kemper; special friend: Benjamin Perry; daughter: Linda Thomas; step brother: Hubert “Tee Top” Robinson.

She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories with her daughter: Teresa Harper, two brothers: Joseph Cotton (Clevion Nell) and Mike “Coley” Cotton, three grandchildren: Nicholas Dixon, Adrian Harper, Garrett Harper and Mayah Owens, six great-grandchildren: Triston Harper, Garren Harper, Anthony Harper, Laila Belle Harper, Aveah Griffin and August Coleman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and special lifelong friends: Connie Wilkerson, Inell Howell, Margarite Roach and Essie Robinson.
