Sandra Moore Goodson

Sandra Moore Goodson, lovingly known as “Grandmother” to those who cherished her most, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on April 16, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 85.

Sandra was born on October 31, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama and later relocated with her family to Pensacola, Florida where her father was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base.

At just 14, Sandra met the love of her life, the man who would become her husband and lifelong partner - Otis Goodson Jr. On January 21st, 1956, at the age of 15, she married him. Together, they built a remarkable life and shared 65 years of unwavering love and devotion until his passing— a marriage that stood as a testament to faith, commitment, and enduring partnership.

Sandra pursued higher education at Florida State University, where she earned her master’s degree in elementary education and counseling. She went on to dedicate 30 years of her life to shaping young minds, first as a beloved elementary school teacher and later as a director for an educational program for the state of Florida. She was deeply respected and fondly remembered by the many students whose lives she touched with her kindness, wisdom, and encouragement.

A true matriarch, Sandra was the heart of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, guiding generations with grace, strength, and unwavering love. Her home was a place of warmth, beauty, and belonging—a reflection of her artistic spirit and her gift for creating meaningful spaces. She had a special talent for decorating and floral design, bringing beauty into everyday life.

Sandra loved the Lord and lived out her faith daily as a devoted Christian. She had a generous and compassionate heart, always ready to care for others and provide for those in need. Her love language was gift-giving, and she was known for selecting the most thoughtful and meaningful gifts—each one a reflection of how deeply she knew and loved the people in her life.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—shopping, spending time with loved ones, and taking annual trips to the mountains, creating treasured memories year after year.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Inez Moore, two infant children, Otis Ashmore Goodson III and Otissa Renée Goodson, and her beloved husband - Otis Ashmore Goodson Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Dr. Rosilyn Goodson Williams and her husband Steve; her son Otis Ashmore Goodson IV and his wife Sharlene; three grandchildren, Ashlyn (Tristin) Hager, Madelyn (Toby) Barnett, and Noah Goodson; and two great grandchildren, Tatum Hager and Lois Barnett.

Sandra’s legacy is one of love, faith, generosity, and devotion. She leaves behind a family forever shaped by her strength, guidance, and unwavering presence. Though she will be deeply missed, her influence will live on in the lives she touched and the family she so beautifully held together.

Her celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 PM Central Time with Dr. Juno Douglas officiating.  Burial will be private in the Goodson Family Cemetery.  Family will receive friends at the home of Ashmore Goodson on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as well as one hour prior to the service at McAlpin Funeral Home on Monday.
