Mrs. Lorene Jackson Pittman
Mrs. Lorene Jackson Pittman, age 94, widow of Arthur “Shag” Pittman, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Mrs. Pittman, affectionately known as Lorene, was a beacon of love and compassion throughout her remarkable life. Born on Wednesday, October 15, 1930, in the Browntown Community of Graceville, Florida. She lived a life rich in faith, family, and service.

Lorene's journey began as a cherished daughter to Lonnie and Cora Kirkland Jackson and grew to encompass the roles of a devoted wife, mother, sister, godmother, and friend. Her union with Arthur “Shag” Pittman, Sr., on Thursday, July 1, 1954, blossomed into a loving family; her loved was shared with many including her children: Darrell (Mazella), Anetha (Felix), Charles (Elaine), Donna, Leartha, Victor (Edna), Shirley and James Thomas (Becky); her loving and devoted caregiver, Dorothy Gray, who stood by her side, ensuring her days were filled with comfort and care; loving grandchildren: Charlotte (Earl), Kita (Elunda), Angie (Jeff), Trellis, Benita Lorene (Robert), Melissa (Gary), Maya (Jay), Tomeco, Carlos (Anna), Jarrod (Julie), Ashley, Benji (Felisha), Tracy (Rah’Sheen), Chris (Lindsey), Anthony, Clifton (Mari), Tim, Broderick, Isaac and Chimorie; great grandchildren: Chatala, Quijada, Robert III, Breonna, Brooklyn, Nya, Tikya, Trenton, Torrionna, Dajia, Tybria, Shanequa, Dominque, Tristian, Micha, Ava’Rosa, Jacob, Jadarius, Warren, Amari, Aaron and Maurice; eleven great great-grandchildren; a special first cousin, Lola King; godchildren: Lorestine (John), Rosalyn (Jerome), Termetri, George, Mary Catherine (Robert), Monica (Jerry) and Connie; her sister Cassie’s children: Karen, Barbara Lorraine, and Robert (Kim); Doll Baby’s children: Byron, Tarphine, Tyrone, LaWanda, Penelope, Greg and Brad; Lil’ Jack’s children: Leontyne, Jethro, Napoleon, Jackie, Barbara, Wanda, Ricky, and Frank Jr.; sisters and brother-in-law: Lena Malone and Joe (Evelyn) Pittman; nephew and nieces: Marcus, Kristina and Nina; family friends: Melvin, Ann and Vanessa; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Sister Pittman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; children: Angela Daneen, Mark Anthony, Arthur Jr. and Ulyssee; sisters: Cassie Mae and Willie Mae; brothers: Lester, Leroy and James; goddaughter, Jackie Jones; son-in-law: Henry Jones; daughter-in-law: Joni Barkley; cousin/sister: Juanita Henderson (Ted) and Hazel Marshall and a niece, Jane Gainer.
As a lifelong member of Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, Sister Pittman was a pillar of her community. She contributed her talents and time to the Church Culinary Ministry, the Senior Choir, and the Prayer Band, touching lives through her service and her unwavering faith. Her passion for her Christian faith was evident in her daily life, as she embodied the essence of Proverbs 31:1-9, offering sustenance and solace to any soul in need.
Lorene's legacy is one of selfless love and passionate commitment to others. She was known to open her home and her heart, never hesitating to feed or provide support to anyone who crossed her threshold. Her life was a living example of the inspiring words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Lorene made everyone feel loved, valued, and cared for.
Today, we celebrate the life of Sister Lorene Jackson Pittman—a truly loving, passionate, and selfless woman. Her impact on her family, her church, and her community will continue to resonate for generations to come. As we honor her memory, let us each strive to live by her example, nurturing the bonds of family, serving our communities with joy, and always extending a hand to those in need. Sister Pittman's life was a testament to the power of love and the beauty of a life well-lived. May we all be inspired to carry forward the light of her legacy in our own lives.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the sanctuary of Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church.
She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.
