Nanie "Nan" Muril Allgood

Nanie "Nan" Muril Allgood, a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, friend and longtime resident of Jackson County was called home to heaven on December 5, 2025, at the blessed age of 78. Born in Wausau, Florida on September 22, 1947, Nan's warmth and vivacity radiated from her from the very beginning.

Nan's early life was rooted in the deep ties of her family, as she was born to the late Herbert Hughes and Gladys Wiggin Hughes. Her journey was shared with her beloved siblings, Pearl Brown, Willie Jackson, JT Hughes, Edward Hughes, and Buddy Hughes, who preceded her in death as did a cherished grandchild, Jarid.

Left to honor her memory and carry on her legacy of love are her devoted children, Tammy Kirkland and her husband Scott and Wayne Allgood and his wife Sharon. Nan was a shining example of joy and wisdom for her grandchildren, Brandy, Teri Ann, Shyla, and Sean. Her great-grandchildren, Shiley, Gabe, Adison, and Abigale, brought immense happiness to her later years, and her great-great-grandson, Kohen, was truly the light of her life. She also leaves behind a special niece, Marie Howell, and beloved nephews, Balford and Winford Brown, as well as a host of extended family members and friends who were blessed by her presence.

Nan's pursuit of knowledge and self-betterment was unwavering, as she demonstrated by earning her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wallace College later in life. Her career spanned over two decades as a diligent and trusted accountant for various firms, showcasing her dedication and work ethic until her well-deserved retirement.

Nan's faith as a Christian was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and joys alike. She embodied the love and kindness of Christ in her daily actions and interactions, always willing to lend a hand or offer a comforting word to those in need.

In retirement, Nan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid enthusiast of nature, spending countless hours with her puppies, enjoying the tranquility of fishing, and immersing herself in yardwork, especially when it came to tending to her roses. Nan never lost her zest for creativity, as she enjoyed watching DIY TV, often guiding her daughter Tammy through various projects with laughter and wisdom.

Nan will be remembered as the epitome of kindness and love. Her gentle spirit and enduring love for her family will continue to resonate through the generations. As we bid farewell to Nanie "Nan" Muril Allgood, we take solace in the knowledge that her legacy of love, passion for life, and unwavering faith will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Her light, though now shining from above, will continue to guide us in the path of love and compassion.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced soon by McAlpin Funeral Home.
