Danielle Walker, candidate for Jackson County School Board, District 5

My name is Danielle Walker, candidate for Jackson County School Board, District 5.

Allow me to give you my background: I’m not a politician. I’m a working parent.

To be completely transparent, back in 2022, I couldn't have told you which School Board District I lived in. I didn’t vote in that election because, like many of you, I didn’t fully realize how much the School Board impacts our daily lives and our children’s futures. I was one of over 3,500 people in District 5 who stayed home.

That has changed. I am running because I realized we cannot afford to stay on the sidelines. I’m not here to build a political career; I’m here to ensure my three children—and yours—have a school system that supports them and teachers who guide them.

I have served our community as a Physician Assistant for 20 years. Jackson County is the home I know and love; I’ve lived here longer than my own hometown, and it’s where my children were born and are currently attending public school.

My journey started in the public school system, which paved the way for me to attend Florida State University on an academic scholarship. While there, I also competed as a collegiate athlete in track and field. After earning my Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in North Chicago, I felt the pull to return south. Today, in addition to my clinical work, I serve as a Clinical Adjunct Professor for the FSU College of Medicine.

In medicine, we rely on evidence-based practice. This means every decision we make must be backed by statistical proof and proven outcomes. I believe we should apply this same rigor to our school system—from budgetary reappropriation, teacher retention, management and long-term growth strategies for Jackson County.

I am a bridge between generations: I grew up using encyclopedias and the Dewey Decimal System, but I am just as comfortable navigating ChatGPT. I understand the fundamentals of education, but I recognize and utilize the technological world that our children must be prepared to lead.

Why I’m Stepping Up:

I am self-funding this campaign (with the exception of unsolicited donations) because I want to be clear that my primary interest is our students and teachers. God has placed this mission on my heart and He is who I answer to.

I see the issues in our schools firsthand because I have three children in them right now. I represent a demographic that is currently missing from our board: the working parents with enrolled children who are navigating the current school system in real-time. I could stand back and wonder if my kindergartner will have a qualified teacher by the time she reaches high school, or I can step up and do something about it.

Over the next 16 weeks, I am committed to providing more than just a campaign—I want to provide clarity. I will be sharing weekly informative articles covering:

• How our districts are structured.

• The actual role and responsibilities of a School Board member.

• Why public education, private education and homeschool programs all affect each other and the roles of each.

• How, where, and—most importantly—why your vote matters.

It’s time for a seat at the table for Jackson County parents. Let’s get to work.
